Plan your visit to kilkenny Ireland

Kilkenny is a medieval city situated in the sunny South East of Ireland, the hero county of Ireland’s Ancient East. An intimate city, with medieval streets and a 900 year old castle full of history and heritage. There’s lots to explore on the Medieval Mile, adventure to be had in our villages and towns and plenty to experience at our festivals, arts and cultural events. Top it all off with great food and atmosphere in our many restaurants, cafés and pubs.

During our St. Patrick’s Festival the city and county come alive with pageantry, craic agus ceol. Enjoy free events, workshops, and performances, and the main event – The St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The St. Patrick’s Festival Kilkenny takes place alongside Kilkenny Tradfest. A traditional music festival with gigs from some of the best Irish Musicians. There is no better place to be and no better way to experience a real St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland!

This page has everything you need to plan your visit to travel to Kilkenny.

Places to Stay

Kilkenny has an option for every budget with gorgeous hotels, practical hostels, delightful B&B’s and unique guesthouses and camping and glamping.

How to get here

Located in the South East of the country, Kilkenny is never too far from where you land on our shores. Whether you’re coming by plane, boat or automobile we’re rarely more than 2 hours down the road.

Fly in to any of these airports and rent a car to be in Kilkenny in less than 2 hours. Dublin (90mins via M9), Cork (<2hrs via M8), Shannon (<2hrs via M8) or Waterford (<1hr via M9).

Sail to Dublin or Rosslare, and bring your car or rent one. Then Kilkenny is 90mins away from Rosslare Harbour and 100mins away from Dublin Port.

Direct bus routes to the city from Dublin, Waterford, Carlow and Cork (via Waterford) are run by JJ Kavanaghs and Dublin Coach. With trains from Dublin and Waterford too.
