Everything you need to know about the Kilkenny City St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2024!

The centre of our St. Patrick’s Festival, the Kilkenny city St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Sunday March 17th at 1.30pm.

Promising pageantry, craic and a celebration of community and culture! Communities and groups from around the county, as well as musicians, creatives and ‘cats’ will be taking to the streets led by Grand Marshal, Kilkenny Hurling Legend, Richie Power.

This year’s theme is Kilkenny Cats: Tales and Legends. From ancient tales to present day legends Kilkenny has it all. With history and stories from witches and cats to Tudors and castles and present day legends in sports stars, musicians, artists and community leaders.

The 2024 Parade route will go from lower John Street, to Rose Inn Street, The Parade (Review stand), High Street, and finish at the Market Yard. You are invited to line the streets and enjoy the pageantry, music and spectacle. Please note road closures will be in place. You are encouraged to leave the car at home where possible!

Before and after the Parade the streets of Kilkenny will be full of lively entertainment and activity with live music, Festival Market, Vintage Carnival, Street Entertainment and fun for all the family!

Pre-parade, Market Cross Shopping Centre will be hosting The Brass Monkeys at 12noon, while the pre-parade party kicks off in MacDonagh Junction SC at 11am. There will also be performances by the St. Patrick’s Brass and Reed Band and Samba Katz along the Parade route. Post Parade the party continues with Déise Medieval in the Castle Yard, live music with Pádraig Jack and Breaking Trad on the Festival Stage, Karbunklis Latvian Dancers outside Kilkenny Castle, The Hit Machine & Hakuna Matata at the Festival Tent and street theatre across the city, finishing with a Fireworks Display in the Castle Park at 7.30pm (tickets required).
