A small town in Minnesota, named after our very own Kilkenny, Ireland. The cities have been twinned since March 16th 2013.
Kilkenny is a city in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. Settled in 1956, it was named after our Kilkenny in the southeast of Ireland by it’s Irish settlers. One of the first settlers was Dennis Doyle (1818-1902) born in Kilkenny County, Ireland, who came to the United States in 1851. Dennis would go on to be a store owner, a postmaster, the first township clerk and to serve as a state legislator.
Every year we welcome a delegation from Kilkenny, MN to our St. Patrick’s Day Festival. We love having them visit and we hope to see them all again soon.
If you find yourself in Minnesota pop in and pay our sister city across the Atlantic a visit!
