TOM TREACY – KILKENNY’S FORGOTTEN COMMANDER (1919 – 1923)

A HISTORICAL TALK

Join Comdt (retired) Larry Scallan on Saturday, 15th of March at 3pm in the Parade Tower to listen to a talk on Tom Treacy – Kilkenny’s Forgotten Commander (1919 – 1923) at St. Patrick’s Festival Kilkenny 2025.

This talk will detail Tom Treacy’s early life and explain his importance to the struggle for Irish independence from 1914 to 1922. We will discuss the founding of the Volunteers in Kilkenny, Easter 1916, and the development of the Irish Volunteers within Kilkenny to Brigade level under the leadership of Tom, with a re-assessment of the Hugginstown attack which occurred in March 1920. Tom Treacy continued to be an important figure in Co Kilkenny throughout his life and Tom’s legacy will be assessed and discussed.
