Iarla ó Lionáird, Cormac McCarthy & Aoife Ní Bhriain in concert with support from Kilkenny’s own Lady Desart Choir kicking off St. Patrick’s Festival Kilkenny and Kilkenny Tradfest with a beautiful concert of Irish music is the stunning setting of St. Canice’s Cathedral.

Lady Desart Choir is a dynamic and much-loved community choir based in the medieval city of Kilkenny. Under the musical direction of Gill Coulter, and with 75 members ranging in age from 26 to 86, the choir is renowned for its fun-filled, lively performances, and its wide-ranging, genre-spanning repertoire. The choir has recently been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, New York, in early 2027.
Iarla Ó Lionáird is a twice Grammy-nominated Irish vocalist renowned for his haunting, expressive voice and innovative career bridging traditional sean-nós and contemporary music. Raised in Cúil Aodha and influenced by Seán Ó Riada, he has collaborated with artists from Peter Gabriel to Nick Cave, performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, and is the vocalist of the acclaimed band The Gloaming.
Aoife Ní Bhriain is an award-winning Dublin violinist known for her versatility across classical and traditional music, collaborating with artists including Catrin Finch and leading major Irish ensembles. She performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, with acclaimed recordings and a strong focus on both Bach and Irish traditional repertoire.
Cormac McCarthy is a Cork-born pianist, composer, arranger and conductor whose genre-defying work spans jazz, classical and orchestral music. His compositions have been performed by ensembles including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, while his solo release On The Other Hand marked him as a rising European jazz voice.
